The Neighbourhood classifies themselves as a Rock band, but their sound is very experimental/RnB/Hip-Hop/Indie-rock...I don’t know, but it’s dope. They released their mixtape (not a term you usually hear or use when discussing rock bands) hosted by Don Cannon & DJ Drama, entitled #000000 #FFFFFF (html code for Black & White,) and it was packed with Hip-Hop features including Casey Veggies, YG, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf, French Montana, Skeme, OG Maco, and more. I have honestly never heard anything like this project before, and it has been on repeat ever since I discovered it.
Jealou$y (feat. Casey Veggies & 100s) is one of my favorite tracks. It feels like Hip-Hop and Rock, but very soulful, mainly due to the addition of the saxophone. This just happens to be the track I’m listening to at the moment but it’s very hard to pick a favorite because this tape is filled with nothing but hits. Their sound is unique and the vibe is amazing.
This band has already accomplished something I don’t think anyone has ever done before, but I feel like this is just the beginning. Go download #000000 #FFFFFF and check it out for yourself.
