Boogie – Nigga Needs

Visuals will always be beyond crucial for me in the landscape of artistry surrounding the music. Compton’s Boogie delivered powerful ones for Nigga Needs, a track off his Thirst 48 Pt. II project. In a stark white room, we see Boogie representing himself in two juxtaposed fashions in the eyes of the White gaze of spectatorship that often makes us as Black people feel like we are constantly on display, while performing lyrics that expresses the ongoing internalized battles between life’s extreme spectrums we deal with on a daily basis. The Interscope artist has been compared to his West Coast counterparts over at TDE due to his socially conscious messaging, and his visuals are clearly just as powerful and impactful. He stays out of the spotlight and off of social media, but hopefully he has more to come.
