Vince Staples – Big Fish

Vince Staples is one of my favorite people, just based off his conversations and personality from afar, but Big Fish Theory is one of my favorite albums thus far in 2017. His sophomore album explores how “rappers are perceived and perceive themselves,” and does so with a lot of energy and a lot of bass while drawing a heavy influence from house and Detroit techno music – it honestly does not sound like any other rap album I’ve ever heard before, in a good way. Big Fish was the first single and visual off of the album, and you’ll see below Vince is stranded on a sailboat in the middle of the ocean surround by sharks, nonchalantly rapping over the heavy drums as day turns to night while his boat slowly sinks. I could write an entire piece on Vince (I probably will eventually) because he is truly a legend in more ways than one, but until then, enjoy Big Fish Theory.
