I was an immediate fan of Maleek Berry as soon as I heard Kontrol off his EP Last Daze of Summer. My newest favorite, however, is off of his latest release, First Daze of Winter (keeping consistent with the seasonal theme.) The British-Nigerian artist has come into his own throughout the years as he explored and found his sound, starting off as a Christian rapper who now is making music that embraces his heritage as he adds to the beautiful diverse world of Afropop. For this project, he says “The whole concept behind the EP is that it’s a lot darker and it’s a lot warmer. I’m a lot more emotional on the songs and a lot more vulnerable.”
